The Shared Leadership team oversees the site's plan and programs. It monitors the progress toward reaching the goals of the site's strategic plan and coordinates efforts among subcommittees. The team meets monthly at different locations throughout the site. The team is made up of community leaders, business people and area legislators.

The Prevention-Intervention-Treatment Committee focuses on preventing youth crime and violence in the site by developing partnerships with and engaging area schools, businesses, residents and agencies. One of the committee's strategies is to establish "community hales" (Hawaiian for "home") and/or safe havens within smaller neighborhoods in the site where residents can meet, obtain various services, and work together on projects to foster the building of community and pride.

Neighborhood Restoration Committee The Neighborhood Restoration Committee's focus is to re-instill pride in communities through large-scale area community projects and to support economic development in the site. The Community Policing Committee brings together area residents and HPD to develop strategies to reduce fear of crime and to engage residents in caring for their neighborhoods. Objectives include:

  • Identifying opportunities for new community patrols
  • Recruiting and training residents for patrol teams
  • Maintaining data on all patrols within the site
  • Developing networking opportunities for patrols
  • Working collaboratively with HPD to develop effective safety systems
  • Involving property managers, businesses and schools in the strategy

    The State Steering Committee is chaired by the U.S. Attorney, District of Hawaii and sets the direction of the strategy to achieve the mission and purpose as defined by the U.S. Department of Justice. Members of the Steering Committee are determined by the U.S. Attorney. The Steering Committee reviews and approves applications for official Weed and Seed status. Additionally, the Steering Committee provides oversight of program goals and objectives, approves annual budgets for both administrative operations and each site, approves changes to the strategy and evaluates the strategies.
